GCAA, Oracle announce partnership at ICAO Blockchain Summit

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 03rd Apr, 2019) The ICAO Blockchain Summit and Exhibition kicked off today in Abu Dhabi, under the theme, 'Blockchain: Unlock the Potential'.

During the first day of the summit's proceedings the GCAA announced a partnership with Oracle Corporation. According to a statement, the partnership will see the adoption of the latest cloud based Oracle technologies assist the GCAA with their objectives to deliver innovative and improved services, as well as address the UAE's aviation industry needs.

Organised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, ICAO, and UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, GCAA, the summit aims to introduce Blockchain technologies to the global aviation industry.

The event, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, gathers 90 nations and more than 800 registered participants along with local and international exhibitors.

The ICAO Blockchain Summit and Exhibition is the first high-level platform of its kind specialised in Blockchain in aviation, and seeks to address challenges in the aviation industry.

Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, ICAO Council President, said, "With traffic growing at its exponential rate, new challenges and risks begin to appear on our system radar much faster than they did before. One of these is the growing number of logistical, administrative and oversight activities which will result from projected traffic growth, and to reduce the pressure on current human resources, while at the same time sustaining increasing demand and quality levels, blockchain technologies could be of tremendous benefit."

The summit is also supplemented by seminars, workshops, and an exhibition area presenting a variety of entities involved in the field of Blockchain.

For his part, Saif Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director-General, said, "Sharing knowledge and gaining full understanding of potential risks in order to close vulnerable gaps is of utmost importance. Participation of prominent experts and speakers, and getting stakeholders across the aviation industry from all over the world together under one umbrella is both imperative and noteworthy."

"Hosting this summit and creating a forum with a collaborative platform is of high importance to the UAE and the entire international aviation industry. Staying ahead of evolving threats is a shared responsibility, involving governments, airlines, airports, and manufacturers. The scope and size of the aviation industry means that all stakeholders must continue to work together to protect the industry," he added.
