IPL matches won’t be shown in Pakistan

Fawad Chaudhry says Pakistan wants to keep sports and politics separate but India made an organised effort to harm cricket in Pakistan.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 2nd April, 2019) The federal cabinet on Tuesday decided to ban the broadcast of Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches in Pakistan.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the decision has been taken in view of the propaganda carried out by India against Pakistan in recent weeks.

Addressing a news conference following a cabinet meeting, the minister said that Pakistan wants to keep sports and politics separate but India made an organised effort to harm cricket in Pakistan.

“The Indian broadcaster pulled out of PSL in the middle of the tournament. The Ministry of Information requested the Federal Cabinet to ban the IPL, as India tried to cause damage to our tournament in an organised way,” he said.

"We saw the attitude that India maintained against Pakistani citizens, actors, artists and cricketers," he said, adding that the wearing of military caps by Indian cricket players during a match against Australia was "the limit" for Pakistan.

The Indian government had banned the coverage of Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in India.

On directions of the Indian government, DSport, the official broadcaster of PSL in India, had blacked out the telecast of the tournament over Pulwama attack.
