Senate Body To Review Status Of Expos Center Peshawar

ISLAMABAD, Nov 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Nov, 2016 ) : In addition to taking up other important issues, the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce is scheduled to review the status of Expo Center Peshawar in its upcoming meeting scheduled here on Thursday, November 10.
The Federal government has already made arrangements for establishing the modern Peshawar Expo Center in line with Lahore Expo Center to facilitate the business community exhibit their products in order to promote trade and investment for the prosperity of the country.
The government has earmarked an amount of Rs300 million in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2016-17 for the establishment of the project out of its total cost of Rs2500 million, official sources said.
The government has set May 2017 as completion date of the project, which according to the sources would be equipped with all latest facilities for trade promotion. The sources said that earlier, two sites were identified for the establishment of the center including one at Nowshera Road and another on Peshawar Motorway interchange adding that selection of the site for the center would be made through proper screening and taking into account all the aspects of business promotion.
This would be a successful exhibition as Peshawar is at the crossroads and an access route to afghanistan and Central Asian countries. "The center will help in enhancing trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian Countries," the sources said.
The sources were of the view that the expo center would not only promote business activities but would create job opportunities in the province. Lahore Expo center has been one of the model expo centers which has promoted trade activities and same would be replicated in other cities of the country gradually, sources said adding the establishment of expo centers in Quetta and Faisalabad are also on cards to facilitate trade and investment activities all across the country.
The Senate body is during its meeting is also scheduled to be briefed on Trade Dispute Resolution Organization (TDRO) and Intellectual Property Organization (IPO). It will be briefed on basic parameters of formulating any Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and on all the FTAs finalized or operationalized so far or those still under consideration.
The committe is also scheduled to discuss the issue of import of huge quantity of powdered milk referred to it by the house.
