Kashmir (Pakistan Point News / Online - 24th March, 2019) Leaders, activists being called to police stations, Night raids carried out | Massive arrest spree on cardsthe Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front, the government has started crackdown against the party by calling its leaders and activists to the police stations. The formal orders for seizing the offices and other properties of the now banned party are expected to be issued on Sunday.The Front was banned by the Central Home Ministry on Friday for allegedly promoting secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Front chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik is already under arrest and is lodged in Kot Balwal jail Jammu.A senior police officer said that numerous JKLF leaders and activists have been asked on telephone to report at their respective police stations.Last night, raids were carried out at residences of three JKLF leaders, however nobody was arrested. The police officer said JKLF leaders and its cadre would be taken into preventive custody.The crackdown on JKLF has been initiated under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
"On Friday evening, lists of JKLF leaders and activists who have to be detained were prepared by each police districts of valley," a senior police officer in know of the developments told Greater Kashmir.He said that police wants leaders and activists of JKLF to present themselves at police stations. "We have reports that some leaders and activists are avoiding police and their phones were switched off," he said adding that in these cases "law will take its own course.
""This would be a smaller crackdown as compared to the one against Jamaat-e-Islami as JKLF carders are lesser in number," he said.During a major crackdown against Jamaat-e-Islami last month, hundreds of its leaders and activists were arrested across Kashmir. Several JeI leaders were later booked under the controversial Public Safety Act which allows detention without trial.The district magistrates will also be issuing regulatory orders on Sunday.
"We received the ban notification officially on Saturday evening," one the deputy commissioners told the Greater Kashmir. "Tomorrow regulatory orders will be issued by deputy commissioners," he said.The regulatory orders will vest powers with magistrate assisted by the police to seize the offices and other properties of JKLF.The deputy commissioner said that properties and assets of JKLF leaders are currently being identified across the state.
