The Islamic State terror group's (IS, outlawed in Russia) "caliphate" is defeated but some militants are sheltering in camps for internally displaced persons and remote areas, US Army Lt. Gen. WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd March, 2019) The Islamic State terror group's (IS, outlawed in Russia) "caliphate" is defeated but some militants are sheltering in camps for internally displaced persons and remote areas, US Army Lt. Gen. Paul LaCamera, Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve commanding general, said on Saturday.

Earlier on Saturday, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) released a statement that the last remaining pocket of the IS terrorist enclave in Syria's eastern village of Baghuz had been defeated, marking the end of the "caliphate" that the terrorists established in 2014 amid a civil war in Syria.

"The end of the so called physical caliphate is a historic military accomplishment that brought together the largest Coalition in history, but the fight against Daesh [Arabic acronym for IS] and violent extremism is far from over ... Make no mistake, Daesh is preserving their force. They have made calculated decisions to preserve what is left of their dwindling personnel and capabilities by taking their chances in camps for internally displaced persons and going to ground in remote areas. They are waiting for the right time to reemerge," LaCamera said in a statement.

The Islamic State is an international terror organization that is actively disseminating ideas of radical islam across the world. The group seized huge territories in Syria and Iraq in 2014, which were later retaken by the countries' respective governments.
