British does not give funds to KP  government directly : DFID clarifies

UK Department for International Development (DFID) does not fund the KPK government directly for any initiative, said the UK High Commission in Pakistan

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News / Online - 22nd March, 2019) UK Department for International Development (DFID) does not fund the KPK government directly for any initiative, said the UK High Commission in Pakistan. On a query from the Online, the British High Commission media department said the British High Commission is aware of the investigation being undertaken by the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into the allegations of fraud in the area of education.

It further said that DFID provides Sector Budget Support to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for education activities, but areas such as school construction are not eligible to receive this type of funding."Replying to the question, Arooj Zahra, Head of news and Public Affairs said that DFID does not fund the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) for either project. She further said that British High Commission is aware of the investigation being taken by the provincial government into the allegations of fraud in the areas some projects.

It is to mention that the KPK government has decided to start investigations for embezzlement of billion rupees British aid for the projects included student voucher scheme, New School initiative, Farogher Taleem project and millions embezzled in bank. Funds were released to ghost schools as well in several districts.The high officials of concerned department of KP have put heavy sum of amount in their pockets in the name of education in KP.

Earlier in the Punjab province, where school projects have been allocated 383 million British Pounds of the UK aid, Pakistan's auditor general uncovered corruption on a huge scale. The investigation revealed that 35 million Ponds had been disappeared from the region's higher - education budget, including 25 million pounds on bad investments and hundreds of thousands in fraudulent advances to teachers.It is pertinent to mention that KP government had kept silent over this large scale corruption but now it has taken decision to investigate the matter at the highest level.
