MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) Russian gas giant Gazprom said on Thursday it had increased gas deliveries to Hungary by 12.1 percent year-on-year to 1.3 billion cubic meters in the period from January 1 to March 20.

Earlier in the day, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto held a working meeting in Moscow to discuss current cooperation issues, including gas deliveries.

"In 2018, Hungary increased gas imports supplied by Gazprom by 9.3 percent to 7.6 billion cubic meters. Growth continued in early 2019. According to preliminary data, the company supplied 3 billion cubic meters of gas to the republic from January 1 to March 20, which is 12.1 percent more than in the same period of 2018," the company said.

Special attention at the meeting was paid to the implementation of projects for the construction of new export gas pipelines. The parties also discussed plans for the development of the Hungarian gas transmission system.

In July 2017, Miller and Szijjarto signed a roadmap for the development of the Hungarian gas transportation system. Earlier in March, Serbian Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic said that the construction of the extension of the TurkStream gas pipeline in Serbia, which will help transport Russian gas from Bulgaria to Hungary, was scheduled to begin in April.
