FJWU holds lecture on "Role of Women in Promoting Tolerance"

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 08th Nov, 2016 ) : A philosophical and intellectual lecture regarding the `Role of Women in Promoting Tolerance` was held at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in collaboration with Punjab Information Department.

The lecture was organized for the students to promote awareness and knowledge of islam regarding the rights and responsibilities of women in society, pondering over how women can promote tolerance.

Syed Bilal Qutab, renowned scholar, an architect by profession, trainer and a counselor, was the guest speaker on the occasion. While briefing the students about the concept of women and tolerance in Islam, Dr.

Bilal said that Islam has given a privileged status to women rather than men. The role of women as a mother, daughter and sister is a blessing of Allah. He said that tolerance is not concession, condescension or indulgence.

"Tolerance is, above all, an active attitude prompted by recognition of the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms of others", he added.

So the role and contributions of women to the culture of peace and tolerance is not only important as women represent the majority of the global population and are key drivers of the radical change of mindsets, institutions and cultures that we seek.

He also explained many complex issues regarding women rights in detail and differentiate the teachings of Islam from other religions. Majority Muslim countries give women varying degrees of rights with regards to marriage, divorce, civil rights, legal status, dress code, and education based on different interpretations but "we should only follow the teachings of Quran and Sunnat", he stressed.

Dr. Qutab also shed light on the various teachings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) with references of Hadees and Sunnat with regards to the role of women in creating tolerance. A large number of faculty, staff and students were present in the lecture that was followed by a long interesting question answer session.
