Punjab Home Department already allowed the JIT to visit the Kot Lakhpat Jail.
LAHORE- The joint investigation team (JIT) formed to probe the Model Town incident will record the statement of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif at the Kot Lakhpat jail on Wednesday.
The team has earlier sought permission from the Punjab Home Department to get access to the former prime minister for the recording of his statement, which was granted.
The investigation team is headed by Inspector General (IG) Motorways AD Khawaja and comprises Lt Colonel Mohammad Attique-uz-Zaman from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Lt Colonel Irfan Mirza from Military Intelligence (MI). Mohammad Ahmed Kamal, deputy director general of Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Qamar Raza, deputy inspector general (DIG) Police Headquarters Gilgit-Baltistan, are also part of the JIT.
It is expected that the team will visit the jail in morning hours. The team on Monday
recorded the statement of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif.
At least 14 people were killed and 100 others injured in police action against PAT workers in Lahore on June 17, 2014. PAT Chairman Dr. Tahirul Qadri claimed Sharifs were directly involved in the incident.
