LUHANSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) The self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) urges the UN Human Rights Council to find out the fate of citizens held in "secret" prisons of Ukraine's Security Service on accusations of "complicity in terrorism," Acting Head of the LPR militia Mikhail Filiponenko said on Friday.

"We have to appeal to representatives of the UN Human Rights Council with a call to find out the fate of civilians, illegally accused of complicity with terrorism and held by the Security Service," Filiponenko said at a briefing.

The Ukrainian special services detain citizens at checkpoints "setting them up as criminals," while after that detainees "mysteriously disappear, their whereabouts are unknown," according to the head of militia.

Filiponenko went on to say that international human rights organizations confirmed in their reports that Kiev had violated the rights of detainees.

Last year, Human Rights Watch said in a report that SBU was responsible for illegal, prolonged detention of numerous individuals, who face torture and abuse during their detention at the secret facilities.

In 2016, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International said that 13 people had been released from a secret SBU facility in Kharkiv.
