US, Taliban finalize peace agreement: International Media

Details of agreement signed in Doha between two sides have not been shared.

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 12th March 2019) International media outlets state that the United States and Taliban are agreed on a peace draft in a fresh round of talks in Qatar’s capital Doha.

“US delegation and the Taliban, on the last day of the fifth round of Doha talks, drafted an agreement on combating terrorism and the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan,” reported some Afghan media. However, details of the agreements have so far not been revealed by any side of the negotiators. The reports say the agreement was written in both English and Pashtu. It was the fifth round of talks between the two rivals who come to the table after the active role of Islamabad for the establishment of peace in Afghanistan.

If confirmed, the development would be a major breakthrough towards the establishment of peace in the war-torn region.

Media reports say Taliban had agreed to cut ties with all terrorist groups and that they were also agreed on a ceasefire.

International Agency Reuters claimed that agreement on the timeline for US forces pullout from Afghanistan has not been finalized in the talks. The next round of talk will be held in the near future, claimed the agency.
