First IG Khurshid Alam Memorial Inter-Regional Tennis Championship begins

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 07th Nov, 2016 ) : The first edition of the IG Khurshid Alam Khan Memorial Inter-Regional Tennis Championship got under way here Monday at synthetic courts of the Qayyum Sports Complex.

Commandant Elite Force, DIG Muhammad Saleem Khan Marwat was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the tournament. Senior Vice President Zaka Ullah Khan Ghandapur, son of late IGP Khurshid Alam Khan, Zad Alam Khan, Principal Nawa Khali High school Shahibzada Zahid Khan Mohmand, Director Operation Tariq Mehmood, Secretary KP Tennis Association Umar Ayaz and more than 120 players were also present.

Commandant Elite Force Muhammad Saleem Khan Marwat in his brief address lauded the organizing committee for holding the event named after late IGP Khurshid Alam Khan who died while playing tennis.

He also promised that good and talented players would be inducted in police on sports basis. He also assured the players that all out resources have been taken to facilitate them. He said with such event, more talented players would come up at national and international levels.

Senior Vice President Zaka Ullah Ghandapur on this occasion said holding of the event aimed at to pay tributes to late Khurshid Alam Khan, a very good player of Tennis, who was died recently while playing Tennis in the Police Club Courts.

Earlier, on the opening day qualifying round of the Men singles Azhar Khan beat Aamir Nasim by 6-3 and 6-4, Shah Mehmood beat Hassan by 6-4, 6-2, Hamid Kabir beat Sharafat (Karak) by 6-1 and 6-2, Kashif Khan beat Adnan by 6-2, 2-6 and 6-3, Wajid Khalil beat Jehanzeb Khan by 6-1 and 6-2, Zohaib khan beat Abdur Rehman by 6-1 and 6-2, Amir Khan beat Muhammad Zeeshan (Dera Ismail Khan) by 6-1 and 6-3.

Top players hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are taking part in different age group categories including Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, U-16, Under-18 and Men singles. A total of 120 players with 24 players in each age group category and 64 players in the Men singles are vie for the top honor Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Mardan, Swat, Hazara and host Peshawar Regions.
