Ghana Heritage Week opens in Sharjah

SHARJAH, (Pakistan Point News - 11th Mar, 2019) The Republic of Ghana Heritage Week yesterday opened at the Cultural Heritage Centre Al Bait Al Gharbi in the heart of Sharjah. Organised by Sharjah Institute for Heritage, SIH, the Heritage Week of the Republic of Ghana, will run until 14th March, as part of the World Heritage Week programme.

Showcasing events and activities, the Heritage Week of the Republic of Ghana will display cultural and traditional items unique to the nation. It will also introduce its distinct dance forms, food, touristic locations, paintings, artefacts and clothing items to the residents of the UAE.

Commenting on the side-lines of the opening, Samata Gifty Bukari, Counsel-General of Ghana in Dubai, said, "We are extremely pleased to be a part of this event and extend our heartfelt appreciation to Sharjah Institute of Heritage for giving us an opportunity to be a part of this cultural fiesta. The UAE and Ghana share a unique cultural bond, and through our participation at this event, we’ve been able to strengthen the bilateral relations, as well as explore the developmental potential we have in the country."

"Ghana is every nature lover’s delight, and through this forum we aim to showcase our cultural diversity to the citizens of the UAE. Rich in wildlife, green vegetation, minerals, wood and reserves, Ghana is the gateway to Africa. We would encourage all the visitors here, as well as the citizens of the UAE to visit our country, and experience the hospitality," added Bukari.

Located on the west coast of Africa, Ghana assumes a special prominence at the World Heritage Week programme, which aims to familiarise the public with the heritage of the world, and the world with the UAE heritage.
