US Air Force Chief Confirms Leaving Post to Head University of Texas at El Paso

US Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson in a statement on Friday confirmed that she was leaving her post soon after the University of Texas system announced her as the sole finalist to become the next president of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP)

EL PASO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th March, 2019) US Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson in a statement on Friday confirmed that she was leaving her post soon after the University of Texas system announced her as the sole finalist to become the next president of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

"It has been a privilege to serve alongside our airmen over the past two years and I am proud of the progress that we have made restoring out nations' defense," Wilson said. "We have improved the readiness of the force; we have cut years out of acquisition schedules and gotten better prices through competition; we have repealed hundreds of superfluous regulations; and we have strengthened our ability to deter and dominate in space."

Earlier on Friday, the University of Texas system said in a press release that their board of Regents voted unanimously to select Wilson as the only finalist to become the next president at UTEP.

The Board of Regents will meet again in at least 21 days for another vote to officially hire Wilson, the release said.

Prior to becoming US Secretary of the Air Force, Wilson served as president of the South Dakota school of Mines and Technology since 2013.

Wilson also served in the US Congress from 1998 to 2009, where she was a senior member of the House or Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee and chaired the Subcommittee on Technical and Tactical Intelligence.
