Trump Says NAFTA Replacement Deal is Done, Will Submit to Congress 'Very Shortly'

US President Donald Trump on Friday told reporters that the new trade deal between the United States, Canada and Mexico has been finalized and will be submitted to the US Congress for ratification very shortly

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th March, 2019) US President Donald Trump on Friday told reporters that the new trade deal between the United States, Canada and Mexico has been finalized and will be submitted to the US Congress for ratification very shortly.

"Mexico-Canada is done, we'll be submitting to Congress very shortly," Trump said. "That's a great deal for the United States, so we are very happy about that."

The new US-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement would replace the 25-year old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which US Vice President Mike Pence called "outdated" on Wednesday.

Pence added that the pending agreement will impact more than 2 million US manufacturing jobs that depend on exports from Canada and Mexico.

Analysts predict that the Trump administration will need nearly all Republican votes in Congress plus support from a number of Democrats from the House of Representatives majority to pass the agreement.
