BMW to Consider Moving Production of Mini From UK After No-Deal Brexit - Manager

German automotive giant BMW will have to look into moving Mini production from the United Kingdom in the event of a no-deal Brexit, the company's manager in charge of the small car brand told media on Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th March, 2019) German automotive giant BMW will have to look into moving Mini production from the United Kingdom in the event of a no-deal Brexit, the company's manager in charge of the small car brand told media on Tuesday.

"If this would come - the worst case scenario... we would need to consider what it exactly means for us on the long run," Peter Schwarzenbauer told Sky news.

He said the Cowley plant in Oxford, southern England, would be too much of a burden if the United Kingdom crashes out of the European Union with no deal on future trade, which could bring up tariffs and disrupt supply chains.

This will not affect Rolls Royce, a luxury brand owned by BMW and associated with the United Kingdom, which will have to stay in the country whatever happens after the March 29 deadline, Schwarzenbauer noted.

The warning comes weeks after Japanese carmaker Honda said it would shut its only factory in the country in 2021, putting thousands of jobs on the chopping block.
