MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th March, 2019) The inter-parliamentary dialogue is playing an important role for development of the relations between Italy and Russia, Roberto Fico, the president of the Italian parliament's lower house, said on Tuesday in his speech at the Russian State Duma's plenary session.
"We must boost international security and strengthen relations between our countries in various areas. I think the dialogue between lawmakers is very important. Parliaments, regardless of the constitutional peculiarities of each country, are expressing the will of the people," Fico said.
He pointed out that there was political, economic, cultural and inter-human communication between Italy and Russia.
"If we look at our relations today, they are developing in many different directions. Russia is known as Italy's key partner in terms of the energy cooperation, while Italy is for Russia a key country in terms of manufacturing industry," the senior lawmaker said.
Fico also stressed that Rome and Moscow were involved in political as well as international cooperation.
"Undoubtedly, Russia is playing a great role in [solving] the European issues," he added.
Fico along with a group of other Italian lawmakers is currently on a two-day official visit in Moscow, which started on Monday.
