Russian Lower House Speaker, Italian Counterpart to Have Talks in Moscow

Russian lower parliamentary house speaker Vyacheslav Volodin will hold a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Roberto Fico, a member of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) party, in Moscow on Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th March, 2019) Russian lower parliamentary house speaker Vyacheslav Volodin will hold a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Roberto Fico, a member of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) party, in Moscow on Tuesday.

The talks will take place within the framework of a two-day visit of the delegation of Italian lawmakers to the Russian capital, which started on Monday.

Aside from the president of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, the delegation includes Marta Grande, the president of the chamber's foreign affairs committee, and lawmakers from four major Italian political parties Pino Cabras from M5S, Dimitri Coin representing the euroskeptic Lega party, Democrat Andrea Romano and Deborah Bergamini from center-right Forza Italia.

After the meeting with Volodin, Fico is expected to deliver a speech at a plenary session of the Russian lower house, the State Duma.

On Tuesday, Fico is also expected to open the 16th session of the High Russian-Italian Interparliamentary Commission in Moscow, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The Italian lower house speaker noted that in his speech he would address the relations between the Italian and Russian people. The last session of the commission was held in October 2016 in Rome.

In his interview to Sputnik, Fico mentioned that the role of parliaments in security policy, information pluralism and economic cooperation will become the key topics of the commission's session.
