VLADIVOSTOK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th March, 2019) A backup aircraft for passengers of Beijing-Los Angeles flight, which conducted an emergency landing in Russia's Chukotka, will arrive before evening, the regional government said on Tuesday.
Air China flight from Beijing to Los Angeles conducted an emergency landing in the airport of Anadyr in Russia's Chukotka region earlier in the day due to fire alarm in the luggage compartment. All 188 passengers were evacuated via inflatable emergency escape slides.
"According to the agreement of Rosaviatsiya [Russian Federal Agency for Air Transport] with Air China carrier, the backup aircraft should arrive at the airport of Anadyr at 17.00 [05.00 GMT]," first deputy governor of Chukotka, Leonid Nikolaev, said.
According to the authorities, all passengers are accommodated in the airport building, in the international flight zone and in the VIP lounge. They are provided with food, medics are on duty at the scene, but neither of the passengers applied for medical assistance, no one was injured. Also, four interpreters from English and Chinese are working at the airport.
The fire alarm on board the aircraft turned out to be false, the authorities noted.
