WASHINGTON, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Nov, 2016 ) : Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook confirmed the death of senior al-Qaeda leader Faruq al-Qatani in a precision strike conducted by the US military in eastern Afghanistan.
Faruq al Qatani was killed on October 23 in Afghan province of Kunar, Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a statement issued by the Pentagon office.
"Al-Qatani was al-Qaeda's Amir for eastern Afghanistan and one of the terrorist group's senior plotters of attacks against the United States," he said.
Cook described the successful strike another example of US operations to degrade international terrorist networks and target terrorist leaders who seek to attack the US homeland and its interests and allies abroad. "Another al-Qaeda leader in Afghanistan, Bilal al-Utabi, was also targeted in a separate strike. We are still assessing the results of that strike," Cook said.
