Efforts To Remove Bonded Labour From Brick Kilns Lauded

LAHORE,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Nov, 2016 ) : The efforts of Punjab government for the elimination of bonded labour from brick kilns are commendable. All Pakistan Bricks Kilns Owners Association General Secretary Mehr Abdul Haq and General Secretary Bonded Labour Liberation Front Syeda Ghulam Fatima said talking to APP here on Saturday.
They said that after 18th amendment, provinces had the power to formulate policies and legislation for the betterment of labour community. They said that Punjab Assembly had approved Prohibition of Employment of Children at Brick Kilns Ordinance 2016 which will restrain brick kilns owners to trap labourers to get huge advances (paishgi).
They said that under the law, brick kiln worker could get only Rs 50,000 as advance and employment contract would be mandatory in written deed. They expressed confidence that implementation of the law in letter and spirit would resolve issues of workers of this very important industry.
