Mohamed bin Zayed, Singapore Prime Minister hold talks

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, held talks with Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, on bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as issues of mutual interest in the global arena

SINGAPORE, (Pakistan Point News - 28th Feb, 2019) His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, held talks with Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, on bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as issues of mutual interest in the global arena.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong welcomed Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed's visit to Singapore, noting the importance of the visit in enhancing cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors.

The two sides reviewed opportunities for trade and investment cooperation, as well as developing education and health sector cooperation for the interests of both countries and their peoples.

The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and the Singapore Prime Minister also exchanged views on regional and international developments, along with issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, His Highness affirmed the strength of relations between the UAE and Singapore, highlighting the progress and development witnessed since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two friendly countries in 1985.

"The UAE is keen to strengthen ties with Singapore," said Sheikh Mohamed, "particularly in the education and human resource development sectors, in light of Singapore's global pioneering experience, based on its knowledge, sustainable development and post-oil readiness policies."

His Highness emphasised the UAE's interest in establishing effective and fruitful partnerships with country's that apply distinguished development models, benefiting from and exchanging experiences to serve national development processes. He praised Singapore's development experience, noting that the country is an important model, providing lessons in optimising investment in national capacities, reliance on human resources, knowledge production and strong involvement in global technology development.

The UAE and Singapore represent two outstanding examples of human coexistence, added Sheikh Mohamed, noting the joint role the two countries play in promoting dialogue between faiths and cultures as important factors supporting the strong ties between the two countries.

His Highness went on to note the UAE's interest in advancing ties in the political, trade and investment, technology, cultural, and education sectors with Singapore. He expressed his confidence that in the coming period, UAE-Singapore ties will advance further.

For his part, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong noted his country's interest in strengthening ties with the UAE, highlighting the country's development model and noting its strategic economic sector, while also praising the UAE's development journey.

He also praised efforts exerted by the UAE to consolidate values of coexistence, tolerance and dialogue between peoples of different cultural backgrounds, as well as its efforts to ensure regional and global peace and security.

Following the talks, the two sides re-emphasised their common interest in bolstering cooperation between the two countries, opening up new horizons for the benefit of their peoples, whilst also serving regional and global development.

They also stressed the importance of redoubling efforts by the international community to achieve regional and international peace and security, while also consolidating concepts of tolerance, dialogue and coexistence among various nations and peoples of the world.

The Singaporean delegation attending the meeting included Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies; Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; S. Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information; Dr. Mohammed Malki bin Othman, Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs; Benny Lee, Principal Private Secretary of the President, and Samuel Tan, Ambassador of Singapore to the UAE, along with a number of officials.
