Cohen Never Said US President Was Personally Interested in Trump Tower in Moscow - Kremlin

Michael Cohen, a former attorney of US President Donald Trump, never said that the president had some personal interest in the deal on a Trump Tower in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) Michael Cohen, a former attorney of US President Donald Trump, never said that the president had some personal interest in the deal on a Trump Tower in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

In the course of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged Russian meddling, Cohen has reportedly admitted that he lied about the timeline of the talks on the building. According to him, they continued in 2016, when Trump was already a presidential nominee. Peskov confirmed in December that Cohen had addressed the Kremlin about the planned building and asked to meet the management of the Kremlin administration. However, Cohen's representatives had been told that the presidential administration does not handle real estate development, Peskov said at the time.

"No, that was never mentioned," Peskov told reporters, when asked if Cohen ever mentioned in his letters Trump being personally interested in the deal.

According to the presidential spokesman, the letters referred to the fact that the deal would not be implemented.

"On the contrary, the letters said that they would not be able to implement this project ... That is why they wrote, they were trying to get some help, but they should have addressed someone else with that," Peskov said.

In his testimony before the US Congress, Cohen suggests that the US president was aware of the talks on a Trump Tower Moscow even as his campaign began, according to the copy of his opening statement published by the New York Times newspaper earlier on Wednesday.

Cohen said that Trump had not directly told him to lie about the timeline of the talks, but "had made clear ... through his personal statements ... that he wanted me to lie."

Mueller's investigation is focused on alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow. The US president has called the investigation a "witch hunt." Russia has repeatedly refuted allegations of meddling in US elections in any way.

A Trump Tower in Moscow was never built.
