KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Nov, 2016 ) : Some 61 percent of the metropolis has been exempted from power load-shedding, a Karachi Electric (KE)'s spokesperson Friday said. He said the KE is determined in providing uninterrupted electricity supply to the city.
He was of the view that 61 per cent of the city, including five industrial zones have been exempted from load-shedding. Seven years ago only 12 per cent of the city was exempted but with more than Rs 102 billion investment in its generation, transmission and distribution, KE has shown a remarkable improvement in its overall system.
As a result, 61 per cent of the city is now exempted from load-shedding, KE's spokesperson remarked.
In addition, KE has presented more than 300 billion plan for further investment in its overall network, whereas the company only recently acquired land to construct a 700 MW coal-fired plant on which work has already commenced.
Regarding KE's upgraded power system, the stakeholder clearly stated in its recent report that there is an improvement in KE's transmission system, causing a significant reduction in faults. Moreover, last year NEPRA ranked the power utility as one of the best distribution companies of the country.
The spokesperson maintained KE is determined in its commitment to provide affordable and uninterrupted electricity to the people of Karachi.
