Community Participation Needed To Combat With The HIV And AIDS

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Nov, 2016 ) : General Secretary Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Hyderabad Dr. Ashfaque Qureshi Friday stressed the need for NGOs and community participation to combat with HIV/AIDS menace in Hyderabad district.
Talking to APP Dr. Ashfaque Qureshi said that this is the high time to adopt strategy against this deadly disease for which each organization, NGO and individual was equally responsible to participate in the interest of society.
He said in addition to providing regular medical facilities to the people, Sindh government has decided to prepare a plan of action against HIV/AIDS and to implement it with the collaboration of organizations, NGOs and the community participation.
He informed that our strategy would be to control over behavioral risk factors responsible for spread of HIV/AIDS in the society and to monitor on HIV prevalence through detective methods and organizational performance so that this menace could be combated with scientific methods.
Dr.
Qureshi said the people suffering from AIDS could not be denied basic human rights and it was the duty of the Government to provide justice to such people. It was difficult to prevent the virus from spreading if human rights were not promoted, he added.
Dr. Ashfaque Qureshi said the number of HIV positive patients could be more high in the city, but due to lack of awareness and illiteracy, the people both in urban as well as in rural areas avoid undergoing for the required tests, he added.
About the detection of maximum number of HIV/AIDS cases in Sindh, Dr. Ashfaque Qureshi said that it was because of better surveillance system being carried out in the province. He said the transmission of deadly HIV virus could be prevented and AIDS is a deadly disease and can be transmitted from one person to another.
He said the lack of awareness and illiteracy is the main factor which is restricting the people in Pakistan to undergo for HIV/AIDS tests and adopt required medical treatment to counter the disease.
