LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Nov, 2016 ) : The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) has stressed the need for up-gradation of Railway system to minimise the chances of accidents in future.
LCCI President Abdul Basit said in a statement here on Friday that Pakistan Railways is one of the largest public sector organisations of the country.
It provides the most important means of travel and transportation of people and goods in the country.
It is estimated that annually over 65 million passengers travel while petroleum products, wheat, coal, fertilizers, cement, sugar and thousands other items are despatched through Pakistan Railways.
"No doubt that the incumbent government, particularly the Federal railways minister has given serious consideration to this important department and situation is far better than in the past, but still a lot of work is needed to be done," Abdul Basit said.
