Football: Moyes Confident He Can Provide Sunderland 'stability'

LONDON, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Nov, 2016 ) - Sunderland manager David Moyes has insisted he still has the support of owner Ellis Short following reports he faces the sack because of the club's woeful start to the season.

The northeast side are bottom of the Premier League table after starting the season without a win in 10 games under new manager Moyes. That has led to suggestions the 53-year-old Scot, banned from the touchline for Saturday's match at Bournemouth, could be on his way out of the Stadium of Light.

But the Sunderland Echo newspaper indicated his position was safe for the time being. Former Everton and Manchester United manager Moyes, referring to reports of his supposed sacking said Friday: "I think they were all quashed weren't they?" Moyes had 11 years of relative success at Everton before being sacked just 10 months into his time at United and then lasting a year at Spain's Real Sociedad.

Sunderland fans have long grown used to an annual battle against relegation and it may be that Short is wary of dumping Moyes to appoint what would be a seventh full-time manager in five years.

Sunderland fans remain broadly supportive of Moyes, although some made an early exit during last week's 4-1 home loss to Arsenal.

"I think the supporters have been brilliant," said Moyes. "Away from home and at home, they come in big numbers.

"That's why it's such an attractive football club. It's attractive because of the people and because of the numbers who come to games. "It's attractive because I think they all know as well, they want a period of stability.

They want a period of success as well, which unfortunately they've not been able to get. "But I think they're willing to go through the pain if the thought is that there is a rainbow at the other end," he added.

Moyes, asked what a win before the international break would do for Sunderland's morale, replied: "It would be great if we could. "So the job's to go to win, we have to win, we have the attitude to win all the games.

"I'm not saying we haven't before but we'll go out there with a positive attitude. "We've got to find a way of getting over the line, of taking points from games and trying to drag out a result if we can, which we weren't able to do last week."
