Russian Servicemen Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Syrian Refugees From East Bank of Euphrates

DAMASCUS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd February, 2019) Servicemen from the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Syrian Reconciliation have delivered humanitarian aid to refugees from the territories to the east of the Euphrates, providing people residing in Dumayr camp, located near Damascus, with over 300 food packs.

Refugees escaped to the eastern side of the Euphrates from militants from the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia), but now these territories remain under control of the international coalition forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by the coalition.

As many as 1,200 families from the eastern side of the Euphrates reside in Dumayr camp, according to the camp's head.

In January, a congress of tribes of eastern Syria was held in the country. During the congress, people from both banks of the Euphrates called for unification of the entire territory of Syria.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting against numerous opposition groups and militant and terrorist organizations. Victory over the Islamic State was declared in Syria and Iraq in late 2017, but certain areas in both countries are still being cleared of militants. Russia, along with Turkey and Iran, is a guarantor of the ceasefire regime in Syria. Moscow has also been providing humanitarian aid to residents of the crisis-torn country.
