Maduro Says US Rhetoric Against Venezuela Linked With Trump's Election Campaign

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd February, 2019) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Thursday that he sees a connection between the US rhetoric against Venezuela and the pre-election campaign of incumbent US President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, Trump called on Venezuelan military officers not to follow orders of Maduro and not to make obstacles for deliveries of humanitarian aid to the country.

"Donald Trump has started his pre-election campaign ... He's desperate, and so he really liked the idea of attacking Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua, and he thinks that, using the rhetoric of the Cold War, he will improve [his rating], which in reality could lead to his total collapse," Maduro said while broadcast by the Hispan tv channel.

The Venezuelan president added that Trump's real interest in Venezuela was not democracy or a solution to the humanitarian crisis, but the country's natural resources.

The US presidential election is slated for November 3, 2020. Trump will be seeking re-election for a second term.
