Power tariff hiked by Rs 1.8 per unit

The decision will put an additional burden of Rs 3.5 billion on electricity consumers.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 20th February, 2019) The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to increase the electricity prices by Rs 1.80 per unit.

A notification has also been issued in this regard.

The electricity tariff has been increased under fuel adjustment formula for the month of January.

The decision will put an additional burden of Rs 3.5 billion on electricity consumers.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested NEPRA to hike the electricity tariff by Rs 1.93 per unit.

The application stated that the electricity production cost remained high in January while as compared to the unit cost.

The CPPA had requested to increase electricity prices by Rs 1.93 per unit.

Earlier, Power Division officials said that the demand of electricity has increased to 13857 Megawatt in the country while its production is 15500 Megawatt.

Load management according to schedule is done in the areas with power theft and line losses.

The NEPRA had earlier in February decided to increase the electricity prices by Rs 0.56 per unit under fuel adjustment formula for December.
