ICC wants Pak-India World Cup matches to be held as scheduled

The tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a new high following the Pulwama attack that killed 40 Indian soldiers.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 20th February, 2019) With the 2019 World Cup in just 100 days, there are speculations where Pak-India matches will be held or not.

The tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a new high following the Pulwama attack that killed 40 Indian soldiers.

With the attack and ongoing Indian propaganda, uncertainty looms over the world cup matches to be held between the two neighbours.

However, the International cricket Council (ICC) has hinted that the Pak-India matches will be held as per schedule.

ICC’s outgoing chief executive officer, Dave Richardson has said that the governing body has no reasons to make any changes to the proposed World Cup schedule and that all matches will be played as planned.

“We haven’t written to the boards as yet,” Richardson said in London.

“Our thoughts are with the people that were impacted by the incident. And we are monitoring the situation with our members including the BCCI and PCB. Certainly, there are no indications any of the matches, including the Pakistan-India match, will not be played as planned at the World Cup. But as I say we will continue to monitor the situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, World Cup tournament director Steve Elworthy is convinced that the match will be the biggest attraction of the tournament.

“It is probably one of the biggest sporting events in the world,” Elworthy said.

“You think of that match and you think of the passion, the support, the audience, the [number of] people who applied for tickets.”

Let’s hope that the Pak-India matches are not called off amid the blame game and rising political tensions.
