MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th February, 2019) The criminal case against Baring Vostok founder and Vostochny Bank co-owner, American Michael Calvey, is not part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's agenda, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
"This situation has nothing and may have nothing to do with the agenda of the head of state, this is quite natural, this is a matter that primarily concerns the investigative authorities, and maybe, in part, concerns our fiscal authorities due to the fact that this is really a very major investor in our economy," Peskov told reporters when asked if Putin had discussed Calvey's arrest with anyone.
He said Calvey might not be considered guilty of fraud before a relevant court ruling, and added that the Kremlin was following the situation. The spokesman said such developments could occur in any country and could affect any businessman.
Peskov said Putin had repeatedly met with the Baring Vostok founder. He said the Kremlin knew Calvey as a consistent major investor who defended the thesis about the attractiveness of the Russian market.
The presidential spokesman said he hoped Calvey's arrest would not affect the investment climate, adding that Russia's relations with other states did not influence foreign investment activities.
