CPSP To Introduce Two New Fellowship Programs In Cataract And Refractive Surgery

KARACHI (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 17th February, 2019) College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) will introduce two new fellowship programs in cataract and refractive surgery to cater two major reasons of blindness in Pakistan which include cataract and cornea. It will cover cornea and external eye diseases.This was hinted by the Vice President of CPSP Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal while delivering his chief guest speech at the 5th Pioneering Innovations in Ophthalmology on "Recent Advancements in Refractive Procedures" held by Hashmanis Group of Hospital here at a local hotel.

Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal assured that CPSP will support whatever needed by the faculty of ophthalmology. With the support of all these professionals, we have been able to introduce three fellowship programs of eye care. Now why shouldn't we introduce two more fellowship programs as we already have seven in paediatrics and six in gynaecology, he recommended.It is very important as discussed by the worthy speakers about eye refractive errors; we will request council to start cataract and refractive surgery fellowship programs, he assured.

Prof. Gondal said that major reasons for blindness in Pakistan are cataract and cornea. Cornea and external eye diseases will be covered in fellowship program which also includes the corneal transplantation. A large number of people in Pakistan are just losing their sight due to delay in diagnosis and good treatment by qualified ophthalmologists and surgeons. We will have to create awareness on mass level to tell people that they should not ignore minor issues of eyes to avoid further complications and loss of sight, Dr. Sharif Hashmani added.Dr. Nauman Hashmani delivered his presentation on "Topography v/s tomography" and shared his expert opinion.At the PIO, Prof. Dr. Fawwad Rizvi was honoured with gold medal in recognition of his services in the field of eye care by Hashmanis Group of Hospitals as part of its program Hall of Fame to honour the real heroes.
