Cairo to Host African Union Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction - Egyptian President

Cairo will host an African Union (AU) Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, which will help the countries of the region to recover from the crises and restore economies and national institutions, Abdel Fattah Sisi, the Egyptian president and the current AU chairman, said on Saturday

MUNICH (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th February, 2019) Cairo will host an African Union (AU) Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, which will help the countries of the region to recover from the crises and restore economies and national institutions, Abdel Fattah Sisi, the Egyptian president and the current AU chairman, said on Saturday.

"Egypt is working with the AU commission to launch the AU Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development to be hosted in Cairo. We believe the center can be an effective regional tool to help the countries recover from armed conflicts, assist their needs and crystallize the national projection of the reconstruction path," Sisi said at the Munich Security Conference.

According to the president, the center will be part of the AU Master Roadmap of Practical Steps for Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2020, which is meant to "achieve stability across the continent through building and empowering national institutions to deliver their duties."

Egypt put forward an initiative to establish a Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development back in 2009.

The AU, headquartered in the Ethiopian capital, is a continental union comprised of 55 member states, which aims to achieve regional integration and promote peace and stability across the region.
