KARACHI (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 16th February, 2019) District administration of Tharparkar on Saturday informed that the day to day relief activities in the drought hit district of Tharparkar are in progress without break.According to the details sent to the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah by Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar, Muhammad Asif Jamil, 29 out of 134 children who were treated at various government hospitals in the district on Saturday, while a child who was suffering from severe respiratory distress died.

According to the DC the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Mithi the child was suffering from a disease called Respiratory Distress. Although all the necessary protocols were followed and immediate treatment was extended but the child who was born by NVD with a weight of 2.7kg at RHC Chelhar Taluka Mithi could not survive.In his report the deputy commissioner informed that 97 children are under treatment in different government hospitals.

Also, according to the report, 589 children were treated on the Sunday in the OPDs of the health facilities functioning in the district under the supervision of Health Department. Whereas, in the OPDs of 31 Basic Heath Units and 18 government dispensaries functioning under the administrative control of PPHI 349 children were attended by the health specialists.Deputy Commissioner in his report informed that in the third phase of free wheat distribution scheme on Saturday 1794 families have been provided with 50kg of free wheat bag each.

Moreover, 340 families who could not receive the free wheat during phase II of wheat distribution scheme were also been provided with free wheat in phase III.Similarly, 19 families who could not receive the free wheat during phase I of wheat distribution scheme were also been provided with free wheat in phase III. In totality 247,659 families in phase I, 253,416 families in phase II and 198,180 families in phase III of free wheat distribution scheme have so far been provided with free wheat bags of 50kg each.

The report further made known that the Livestock Department also set up veterinary camps in 9 different villages of different talukas of the drought hit district - three camps each in Taluka Kaloi and Islamkot and one each in Dahli, Nagarparkar and Chachro talukas. In these camps 92 ailing animals were treated, while 5026 were vaccinated, whereas, 436 animals were drenched.The Deputy Commissioner in his report also informed that in phase III of the free ration bags scheme has commenced from 26.

01.2019 and on Saturday 524 pregnant and lactating women have been provided with free ration bags at their doorsteps. He said that so far in total 50,098 ration bags have been distributed in phase-III, while in phase-II 36,656 ration bags were distributed free of cost.He also informed in his report that government's initiative of providing free fodder to the owners of the livestock has also got pace and on Saturday 917 cattle owners of four UCs of taluka Islamkot of the drought hit district have been provided with 50kg of Vanda Feed and 25kg of Rice Polis each.

He informed that so far in total 11,312 cattle owner have been provided with free fodder for their livestock in different villages of Tharparkar.Deputy Commissioner further informed that Population Welfare Department district Tharparkar has also set up its camps in seven villages of the drought hit district with an aim of creating awareness about contraceptive procedures amongst the women of these villages.
