LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2016 ) : A petition has been filed in Lahore High Court (LHC), seeking information about the steps taken for addressing the problem of smog in the province.
The petition was filed by one Walid Iqbal, expressing his concerns over the prevailing weather conditions due to smog in parts of Punjab. He submitted that the weather condition was causing health hazards like breathing ailments and eye infection etc.
He contended that as per the World Health Organisation (WHO), Lahore was included in top 10 polluted cities of the world due to gaseous emissions of sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide.
He submitted that increased industrial activity and urbanisation were also major causes of pollution in the city. He pleaded with the court to inquire from the respondents regarding remedial measures, taken to address prevailing condition of dense smog.
He also asked the court to issue directions for taking action against industrial activities for violating the Pollution Charge Rules 2001. APP/syh/rsd/ahn
