WARSAW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th February, 2019) The summit on the middle East in Warsaw will focus on the regional crises, humanitarian and refugee issues, as well as issues of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said on Thursday at the opening of the plenary session.

"There are conflicts in Syria, Yemen ... We will reflect on the current status and prospects for the peace process [in the Middle East]. These and other issues will be addressed at the plenary. The working lunch will be devoted to humanitarian and refugee challenges, the methods that international community can use to improve cooperation in these areas," Czaputowicz said.

He added that in the afternoon, the participants of the summit "will discuss the ways to limit proliferation of weapons of mass destruction."

The summit, jointly organized by the United States and Poland, takes place on February 13-14. The gathering stirred controversy after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo billed it last month as a meeting focused on confronting Iran, which he called a "destabilizing influence." The organizers have since rowed back on their objective, having called it "Ministerial to Promote a Future of Peace and Security in the Middle East."

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, Yemen, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia have sent their representatives. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also among the summit's notable guests.

Russia, Turkey, Iran, China and Palestine are not participating.
