KP Inter-Regional Club Hockey Championship Begins

PESHAWAR,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2016 ) : Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter-Regional Club Hockey Championship got under way in all regional headquarters, Secretary Syed Zahir Shah told APP here on Thursday soon after inaugurating the Peshawar Region Inter-Club here Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium.

He said all the office-bearers of the District Hockey Association have been directed to hold their respective Club Hockey Championship at Regional level including Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Mardan, Hazara, Swat and Peshawar.

He said two clubs from each region would represent KP in the National Inter-Club Hockey Championship. Zahir Shah said that before the Regional round, all the Districts held their respective Inter-Club Championship wherein two top clubs qualified for the second phase at Regional level.

Earlier, in Peshawar Region teams from Nowshera, Charsadda and Peshawar are taking part wherein in the first match Malik Club Nowshera defeated Bahlola Club Charsadda by 3-0 in a one-sided affair.

Secretary KP Hockey Association Syed Zahir Shah was the chief guest on this occasion. Before the start of the match the players of both the Clubs from District Charsadda were introduced to him.

He said the basic aim and objective of the Club hockey is to promote the game at grassroots level. The match was started on fast tempo and Malik Club dominated the proceedings right from the push back.

Malik Club opened the account in the 9th minute when center striker Asif slammed in a beautiful goal through field attempt. After taking lead, Malik Club raided on rival goal-post with more attacking moves as a result it was in the 18th minute when Ashfaq netted a fine goal to make the tally 2-0.

At half-time Malik Club was leading by 2-0. It was the second session in which Bahlola Club was awarded penalty shoot when right winger Azam was intercepted wrongly by deep defender of Malik Club.

On this umpire Haroon (PAF) awarded a penalty shoot in favour of Bahlola Club Charsadda but the attempt of Nasir went wide from the goal-post. It was in the 67th minute when Bacha Khan scored a beautiful goal to make the tally 3-0. Thus Malik Club Nowshera won the match by 3-0. Haroon and Amir Hamza supervised the match. APP/ijz/rn
