World Court Considers Irans's Frozen Assets Lawsuit Against US Admissible - Verdict

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Wednesday ruled that Iran's lawsuit against the United States over more than $2 billion in frozen assets was admissible

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Wednesday ruled that Iran's lawsuit against the United States over more than $2 billion in frozen assets was admissible.

"[The court] unanimously finds that it has jurisdiction ... to rule on the application filed by the Islamic Republic of Iran on June 14, 2016, and that the said application is admissible," the judge said.

The US Supreme Court ruled in 2016 that the money frozen by the United States should go to the survivors and families of victims of terrorist attacks attributed to Iran. Tehran claims that this decision violated the 1955 US-Iranian Treaty of Amity.

Washington said in October last year it was terminating the treaty after the ICJ ruled that the United States breached the agreement by reimposing sanctions linked to Tehran's nuclear program.
