Radio Pakistan organizes special live show on World Radio Day

Radio Pakistan's News and Current Affairs in collaboration with the United Nations organized a two hour special live show to mark World Radio Day being celebrated across the world today with the theme Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace

ISLAMABAD (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 13th February, 2019) Radio Pakistan's News and Current Affairs in collaboration with the United Nations organized a two hour special live show to mark World Radio Day being celebrated across the world today with the theme Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace.Addressing the event, UN Resident Coordinator Neil Buhne described Radio Pakistan as the 'Voice of Pakistan'. He said the uniqueness of the public broadcaster such as Radio Pakistan is that it reaches out to everyone in so many different languages.

The UN Resident Coordinator said Radio Pakistan has a long illustrious history and it has contributed in so many different ways for the country. He said the public broadcaster is as relevant today as it was thirty years ago as it deals with all issues including providing information and entertainment to the masses.Neil Buhne also lauded the pivotal role played by Radio Pakistan in dissemination of humanitarian information in the 2005 earthquake.

Higlighting the significance of Radio in bringing the people together, Neil Buhne noted with appreciation that Radio Pakistan is working across different mediums including social media technologies to bring people together and bridge the digital divide.The UN Resident Coordinator also shared with the audience his experience of participating in different Radio Pakistan's programs pertaining to peace keeping missions, Sustainable Development Goals, Human Rights, freedom of expression, human trafficking and HIV/Aids.

He said Radio Pakistan has also played an important role in promoting peace and harmony in the society and the private media should also play such a role that unites Pakistan.Prominent analyst Retired Lieutenant General Raza Muhammad Khan, in his remarks, threw light on the importance of dialogue in addressing issues and conflicts.Defense Analyst Dr Muhammad Khan described the element of 'tolerance' as a catalyst to achieve peace and harmony in society.

He said Pakistan has successfully combated terrorism and extremism and it is time that Pakistan gets back to its traditional norms and values. He said all the institutions will have to fulfill their responsibility to promote harmony and tolerance in the society.Expert International Relations Zafar Nawaz Jaspal said nobody can ignore the accessibility and viability of Radio even in these modern times. He said this is an important medium to develop communication skills and get the required information.

Zafar Nawaz Jaspal regretted squabbling in tv talk shows programs saying the private channels should learn the lesson of tolerance from Radio Pakistan in whose programs difference of opinion and point of view of each other is respected.In his welcome remarks, Director of News and Current Affairs Javed Khan Jadoon gave an overview of the technological advancements made by the national broadcaster in recent times.He said Radio Pakistan has evolved incorporating modern media tools like social media to reach out to untapped segments.

He said Radio Pakistan's twitter following has crossed the four hundred thousand milestone while the following on facebook is around 2.5 million. He said it is the unique distinction of Radio Pakistan that it broadcasts news bulletins in national and regional languages besides airing bulletins in nine foreign languages.He said we have the bigest network of reporters in the country and our news content is balanced, accurate, reliable and unbiased.

He said it is also our unique distinction that Current Affairs channel airs twelve hours of live programing daily seven days a week without repeating a single program. Terming Radio Pakistan- UN collaboration productive, Javed Khan Jadoon said we have together produced one hundred and fifty programs and expressed the confidence that this collaboration will continue in future as well.During this program, rich tributes were paid to legends in different fields of broadcasting including Newsreaders, anchor persons, drama artists, poets, singers, composers, instrumentalists, sports commentators and writers who contributed in the glory of Radio Pakistan.

Messages of legendary figures such as Shaukat Ali, Qavi Khan, Shabnam Majeed, Shaista Zaid, Hassan Jalil and Ahtashamul Haq were also played on the occasion who dubbed their association with Radio Pakistan as memorable and the reason for their recognition in the world.Songs and violin tunes presented on the occasion enthralled the audience which included different segments of the society including students of educational institutions.
