US Court to Hold Russian National Nikulin's Next Hearing on March 5 - Lawyer

Russian citizen Yevgeniy Nikulin's next court hearing is scheduled for March 5, defense lawyer Arkady Bukh told Sputnik

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) Russian citizen Yevgeniy Nikulin's next court hearing is scheduled for March 5, defense lawyer Arkady Bukh told Sputnik.

Nikulin, who was arrested by US authorities in 2016 and charged with allegedly hacking social networks, has been undergoing psychiatric evaluations related to his mental condition.

"The next [court] appearance will be on March 5," Bukh said on Tuesday. "The judge will see him after he comes back from the evaluation."

The judge, Bukh said, had ordered both the defense team and prosecutors to negotiate and resolve differences over a report on Nikulin's mental condition by the next hearing. The two sides, the lawyer added, may even meet this week on the matter.

"On the preliminary review of the report, I am pretty confident that we will be able to have an agreement with the [US] government about his mental condition," Bukh said.

Nikulin was arrested in October 2016 in the Czech Republic and extradited to the United States, where he is accused of hacking into computers belonging to LinkedIn, Dropbox and the Formspring online services. Russian authorities, who charged Nikulin with internet fraud in 2009, requested his extradition on the same day as the United States, but the Czech Justice Ministry granted the US request.

Nikulin has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
