LAHORE Nov 3 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2016 ) : University students can play a vital role in curbing the use of drugs in their communities, especially among their fellows, who have been indulging in such bad practices.
This was stated by Anti-Drug/Narcotics Campaign and Project Director Syed Zulfiqar Hussain in his lecture on 'Drug Addiction among University Students', at the University of Management and Technology (UMT), here on Thursday.
According to the United Nations body report, there are 162-324 million people between ages 15 to 64 years, who take illicit substances at least once in their life and about 6.7 million people are those who are using hard and soft drugs in Pakistan as well.
The programme was organised by the Youth Council for Anti-Narcotics, Drug Advisory Training Hub, in collaboration with the UMT management. Hussain said by involving international organisations, we can minimise the use of drugs.
He said that people in Pakistan use different kinds of drugs including alcohol, Naswar, Gutka etc. "Charas and alcohol are most likely to be used by young people, as these drugs are easily available in our society," he added. He called for a comprehensive policy for prevention and treatment of patients on national and provincial levels.
