AJK President urges UN to condemn Indian brutalities in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2016 ) : President, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan Thursday urged the United Nations (UN) to strongly condemn the Indian brutalities in Occupied Kashmir.

He expressed the hope that the United Kingdom would not only condemn human rights violations and atrocities by Indian forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir but the British prime minister would also raise the issue with Indian counterpart during her upcoming Indian visit.

He stated this while addressing a press conference here at Kashmir House after return from his recent visits to United Kingdom and Norway where he raised human rights violations in held Kashmir.

The AJK president said that India was committing gross human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and the entire population was living under extended curfew for over a month now. Masood Khan also urged the Britain government, Norway and other countries to link their trade contracts with India with peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute.

He appealed to the international community to come forward and play its vital role to end the rights abuses and resolve the issue according to the UN resolutions on Kashmir and in the light of the aspiration of Kashmiri people.

He categorically refuted Indian claims that Kashmir was its integral part. He said that Kashmiris never accepted Indian rule and were continuing their freedom struggle despite worse atrocities and state oppression unleashed by Indian forces to quell their right of self determination promised to them by the United Nations Security Council.

Similarly, the AJK president also contradicted Indian propaganda that there was terrorism in IOK instead of freedom struggle. He said that the Kashmiri people were engaged in freedom struggle and were un-armed, therefore, could not be dubbed them as terrorists.

He said India was trying to divert the world attention from its atrocities in IOK by blaming Pakistan and the Kashmiris for so called terrorism. He termed his visits to United Kingdom and Norway were quite useful as he raised there awareness about human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

The AJK president stressed the Kashmiri community in UK to get united and raise awareness about the issue of Kashmir in an effective and forceful manner.

He informed the media that Pakistani High Commission had sent letters to various British and Pakistan born parliamentarians asking them to send a cross party parliamentary delegation to both sides of Kashmir so that facts on the ground could be ascertained.

A few days ago, the British parliamentarians in various Kashmir related meetings had agreed to work towards sending such delegation to both sides of Kashmir, adding that they will present this report in House of Common, he added.

He rejected the concept that Kashmir dispute was bilateral issue but said it has become now an international issue. Masood Khan said that India on one side creating war atmosphere with Pakistan and on the other hand it was involved in cruelty and brutalities on innocent Kashmiris.

He said that the bilateral dialogue with India would not be fruitful as currently it was being governed by the Hindu extremists. The dialogue with India, he said, should be held purely on Kashmir issue, he added.

Pakistan, he said, was capable of defending its rights and land and added, its defense was impregnable. "We have observed 24th October as founder day of Kashmir and 27 Oct as black day," he said.

President AJK furthered that he also participated in a seminar about human rights in Norway and raised the Kashmir case before the world community. "We have told the world communities that despite Indian brutalities, Kashmiris are holding referendums there in which they refused the illegal Indian occupation," he remarked.

He said that India was not ready to accept the third country mediation for peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue. United Kingdom was permanent member of Security Council, he said, therefore this was its responsibility to raise voice against the human rights violation in Kashmir by Indian army and help resolve the Kashmir dispute.

He also appealed the media to raise Kashmir issue despite other engagement. The visit of special representatives of Prime Minister was fruitful as they raised the Kashmir issue at international level effectively.
