Chief Commissioner LTU assures to resolve issues of business

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2016 ) : The Chief Commissioner, Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Naushad Ali Khan Thursday said his focus was to bridge the communication gap and develop trust between taxpayers and tax collectors as it was the right approach to improve tax revenue of the country.

He said this while talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) called on him and led by its President Khalid Iqbal Malik, a statement issued here on Thursday said.

Naushad Ali Khan said payment of tax on taxable income was a national responsibility as generating income without paying tax was tantamount to earning black money. He said business community should ensure leaving clean tax record to its generation as it would help to improve tax revenue and put the country on the path of sustainable economic growth.

He said if any large taxpayer of the federal capital has any tax issue, he should directly approach LTU Islamabad to resolve the dispute through dialogue. Naushad Ali said if taxpayers would not directly approach the tax department, gap would not be bridged and misunderstandings would persist.

He also instructed to his Commissioners to sit with ICCI representatives for addressing the genuine issues of business community.

Speaking on the occasion, President ICCI Khalid Iqbal Malik highlighted the tax related issues of business community.

He said ICCI was ready to cooperate with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to expand the local tax base, however tax department should avoid coercive tactics and focus on out of court solutions of tax disputes that would create more confidence in taxpayers and help in improving tax revenue.

He said some taxpayers were receiving audit notices every year which was creating harassment and stressed that tax audits should be done with a gap of at least three years. He said many local industrialists have received notices of exorbitant taxes due to which they were disturbed and emphasized that tax department should look into such issues for remedial measures.

Khalid Iqbal said all tax issues should be resolved through dialogue and if LTU has tax complaint against any local businessman, ICCI should first be taken on board to settle the matter amicably.
