US Monitoring Reports of Alleged Russian Forces Sent to Venezuela - Southern Command

The United States is following media reports claiming that Russian forces have been sent to Venezuela, US Southern Command Commander Admiral Craig Faller said on Thursday during testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th February, 2019) The United States is following media reports claiming that Russian forces have been sent to Venezuela, US Southern Command Commander Admiral Craig Faller said on Thursday during testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"We've seen reporting of Russian security forces being flown in, we're looking for evidence on how that will play out and certainly this is an area that has our focus as well as all our partners," Faller told senators.

On January 25, Reuters reported citing sources that "private military contractors who do secret missions for Russia flew into Venezuela in the past few days to beef up security for President Nicolas Maduro."

Russia's ambassador in Caracas, Vladimir Zayomsky, has dismissed the report in an interview with Sputnik. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said reports about Russian servicemen in Venezuela are untrue.

On Wednesday, Venezuela's Ambassador to Russia Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa dismissed media reports that Russian private military companies allegedly guarded President Nicolas Maduro.
