Other Lunar-Orbit Stations Could Be Built Aside From NASA's Gateway - Russia's Roscosmos

Director of manned spaceflight at Russia's State Space Corporation Roscosmos Sergei Krikalev suggested on Thursday that other lunar-orbit space stations could be built alongside NASA's proposed Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th February, 2019) Director of manned spaceflight at Russia's State Space Corporation Roscosmos Sergei Krikalev suggested on Thursday that other lunar-orbit space stations could be built alongside NASA's proposed Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway.

"Perhaps, there could be more than one such station. There could be a station on a highly elliptical orbit, there are certain benefits of low lunar orbit ... at an altitude of about 100 kilometers [62 miles]. Such an orbit can be more useful for lunar exploration," Krikalev said at Moscow's Museum of Cosmonautics.

Krikalev stressed that the final project for building humanity's first lunar outpost Gateway had been confirmed.

The Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway (LOP-G) will be placed on a highly elliptical orbit that will bring it within 930 miles of the lunar surface and as far away as 43,500 miles.
