Ukraine's fourth president, Viktor Yanukovych, said Wednesday at a press conference in Moscow that he had only recently returned to Russia after medical treatment
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th February, 2019) Ukraine's fourth president, Viktor Yanukovych, said Wednesday at a press conference in Moscow that he had only recently returned to Russia after medical treatment.
"I returned to Russia literally several days [ago]. You know, after the treatment," Yanukovych said at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency's media center.
Yanukovych, who was ousted in 2014 during what many considered to be a coup, added that he was following the situation in Ukraine closely.
In November, Yanukovych was hospitalized in Russia with a sports trauma. According to his lawyer, Yanukovych had trouble walking.
On January 24, a court in Kiev found Yanukovych guilty in absentia of treason, sentencing him to 13 years in prison. Yanukovych's lawyer said he was planning to appeal the verdict within a month.
This is one among a number of criminal cases that the new authorities of Ukraine have brought against the former president, who strongly protests the allegations against him.
In 2014, the Ukrainian parliament ousted Yanukovych, who was forced to flee Ukraine for fear of his life. The parliament then announced a new presidential election, which was won by Petro Poroshenko.
