Upcoming Conference In Montevideo Convened To Achieve Peace In Venezuela - Maduro

BUENOS AIRES (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th February, 2019) An upcoming conference in Montevideo will be aimed at initiating dialogue between the Venezuelan government and the opposition and achieving peace in the crisis-torn country, Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro said on Tuesday.

Mexico and Uruguay are planning to convene a conference on Venezuela on February 7 in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo to lay the foundation for the creation of a new dialogue mechanism that would contribute to the return of stability and peace in the country. Representatives from over 10 countries are expected to take part in the meeting.

"Venezuela as a nation has the right for peace. A conference for peace and dialogue in Venezuela, convened by the government of Mexico, Uruguay, Bolivia and 14 countries that are members of the CARICOM [Caribbean Community] organization, will be held on February 6-7 in Montevideo. I have spoken with the head of CARICOM recently, yesterday I talked to Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago [Keith Rowley] for an hour. They talk about the need for peace, dialogue, understanding, assistance to Venezuela, respect for international rights, " Maduro said in his address to the Venezuelan nation.

A first ministerial meeting of an international contact group on Venezuela will be held on the sidelines of the conference in the Uruguayan capital. It was initiated by the European Union and Uruguay, according to their joint statement.

The contact group will comprise the European Union and eight of its member states (France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom) and the Latin American countries (Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Uruguay), according to the statement.
