Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 4th February, 2019) The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to increase the electricity prices by Rs 0.56 per unit.

The electricity tariff has been increased under fuel adjustment formula for the month of December.

The decision will put an additional burden of Rs 4.2 billion on electricity consumers.

The consumers of K-electric and agricultural sector will however be exempted from the hike in power tariff.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested NEPRA to hike the electricity tariff.

The application stated that the electricity production cost remained Rs at 6.49 per unit in December while electricity consumers paid Rs 5.86 per unit.

The CPPA had requested to increase electricity prices by Rs 0.63 per unit.

The demand of electricity has increased to 13857 Megawatt in the country while its production is 15500 Megawatt.

Load management according to schedule is done in the areas having power theft and losses.
