BUENOS AIRES (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd February, 2019) The blast that was heard in the sky over Cuba on Friday has been most likely caused by a meteor and not aircraft, as claimed by media reports, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Cuba, Zaurbek Makaev, told Sputnik, citing local authorities.
Earlier in the day, media reported that an explosion could be heard in the sky over the western Cuban province of Pinal Del Rio, with eyewitnesses saying that they had seen fire and smoke. The Cibercuba news portal said that several journalists on the scene reported that a military aircraft had exploded.
"According to the Cuban authorities, the explosion took place in the province of Vinales ... It was definitely not an explosion of aircraft. It was most likely a meteor, according to the Cuban authorities," the spokesman said.
According to the diplomat, there is currently no information about possible victims.
